Debates about the existence of God are happening all over the world. At business offices, in family living rooms, restaurants, etc.....everywhere. Statistically, the modern world seems to be falling more and more for the atheist belief that God does not exist. According to the 1995-1996 American Almanac, in 1967, only two percent of Americans described themselves as having no religious beliefs. By 1993, that number had risen to nine percent. A shocking increase that exposes just how dangerous the modernist influences have been on the faith.
People involved in these discussions and debates cannot always rely on an extensive knowledge of all the philosophical arguments for the existence of God. But there are incredible aspects of Gods existence which are fairly easy to prove using logic alone. These issues, while not objectively proving the existence of God do offer insights into just how such a divine being could be a reality to someone who worships only the false god of their own reasoning. Two of these issues are objective truth and proof of the eternal. Nobody needs to know any lengthy arguments to fluster even some of the most well prepared cynics on these issues. Since I believe it can be each of these truths can be proven in exactly one paragraph each, here I will attempt to do just that.
In a discussion with someone who denies objective truth, simply get them to do just that. For if they deny the existence of any objective truths, then what they are claiming is simply not true by their own definition. Since they claim no objective truths exist, then what they are saying is not true either which means, oddly enough, objective truth does exist. Anyone who denies objective truth, upholds just the opposite. After being presented with this annoying fact, they may concede that at least one objective truth exists and that one truth is that no other objective truths exist. This will shake them and if you have gotten them to admit to an objective truth right of the bat they will not be so confident in their future views on the issue and may reconsider. But no matter what, they must concede that objective truth does in fact exist.
In a discussion with someone who argues that that the concept of the eternal is unprovable, one only need examine the an empty box using all the reason, logic and modern science one has at their disposal. As we know, if a box is completely empty and nothing is in it, not even air, and you close this box and seal it up, when you reopen it, nothing will be in it. Why? Science and logic tell you that from nothing comes nothing. Something cannot come from nothing. So it will still be empty. It is the same with the Universe. We look around us and see planets, stars, the Earth, and everything else the world has to offer. Yet science and reason tell us all of this cannot come from nothing, therefore, SOMETHING, whether you believe it to be God or gases, has always existed. Something, as St. Thomas would say, is the universes first cause. And this first cause could not have been created from nothing so it must have always existed. Therefore, something as hard for our limited human minds to conceive as the eternal, is the only reasonable or logical conclusion.
So at this point, in short, easy to follow answers to these objections to objective truth and the concept of the eternal, you have made your case. These are two fundamental attributes of God. Don't let these become roadblocks to anyone's ability to grasp the concept of God. Do these issues objectively prove the existance of God? In a word, no. But, they do answer a couple of the objections usually offered by those who reject the ultimate truth. May God have mercy on us all.
