Dominus Vobiscum
The History Buff
Verses Written on a Monday
Afternoon
Stones blackened with age
soot, smoke. Inside is chilly
a bit eerie, ancient walls rise
in front of me reaching, clawing
to points above.
Statues watch me at every corner
yet I don't feel them.
Beams of rainbows caress my face
through panes of colored glass.
The dead sleep in silence except for
the occasional step.
Long corridors dimly lit with
lamps, a still warm silence.
Trees exhibit their blossoms
shoots of leaves.
Stones withered, worn down
by millions of feet.
I stop, hearing the silence.
Smiling I turn and walk away
leaving them.
London
High-rise buildings
Blocking the sun from view
Withering the Rose.
Autumn
Summer Leaves wither
Into red, yellow, and brown
Winter winds blow hard
Dew to frost in the morning
Freezing life in icy blocks.
Halcyon Whispers
Intoxicating smell of pine
riding on downy breezes
of my mind.
Pinecones, needles
caterpillars inching
up ancient pine
Bright, warm leaves of gold
crimson, orange
skip in the wind, gently
falling to the earth.
Trees in unison whisper
to each other.
Small child delights
seeing squirrels, rabbits
imagines pine needle a pen
the bark, paper
Imagines writing a story
acting the parts.
Sunbeams peek through
leaves, scattering their
radiance on every stick
pinecone, patch of moss.
Small child enjoys sweet
music the birds sing, day after day.
Dusk quickens
The child runs
Stopping to see a squirrel
scamp up a tree
She runs to the lamp
safe in her mother's arms.
The
Translation of
The Battle at Murlith Hill Between the Valots and the Calidus
They all stood waiting her inspection. Old men, young men,
vetrans, novices. They looked like
true warriors, long hair and kilts. Their shields round with iron hub caps in
the middle.
When the call was sounded, they charged down the hill brandishing their
claymores, hacking any
of the enemy that they saw. The queen, like an Amazon rushed toward the enemy
general and
hacked....
Unfortunately, I do not know what happened next. The manuscript I was working
from was
destroyed by my two cats. One of them couldn't find the litter box so she did
her business on it
and the other one was such a pig. He actually ate it (of course that was before
the other cat did
her business on it).
I am very upset by what they did. So I found the perfect spot for them right
next to each other in
the new kennel I got for them. I think they will learn their lesson. Or maybe I
should use the
claymore. No, that would be to cruel, wouldn't it???
Bedlam
Sickness overshadows me
Lurking in my brain, heart
Spinning, turning, chills
My skin, grimed with salty sweat
the sun shines brightly
It doesn't on most days
Leaves are turing brown
I wonder why
I am happy
No, I'm not
My brain's in a vice
Throbbing, pounding
leaden eyes drop
Releasing me
I fall
sleeping.
Uninvited Guest
An unfamiliar face
approaches me
beckons a teethy smile
asks, "how are you?"
I don't answer
He seems fake
a charlaton
I hesitate to speak
My mouth is shut
in a clamp
forced to keep
silent.
He scowls, realizing
his mistake.
Relieved I inhale the air
fresh and inviting
Beckoning me to follow.
Untitled
This long stick I hold in my hand
Brings forth a river of ink
onto this page.
The ink--bluish substance
is trapped.
Only allowed freedom
when the stick is pressed.
The ink blue--like water
forms words with each stroke
Allowing my thoughts
to be read by all.
Charing Cross
She stands by the door
listening, looking, listening
Roaring cars slide by
deafens the music
Of birds, crickets
Two eyes stare through the
Blinds. Hoping to find
what is not there.
The sun sets in the east--No
the west
Rat-tat-tat, Rat-tat-tat
There is a knock..another
Another. Clouds overshadow
the senses or what you'd call
sound, sight, touch, smell
taste.
He approachs, dressed in
Black leather trenchcoat
shoes, gloves
Face expressionless
Yet wishing to be miles away.
The eyes stare, watching
staring. he walks left
The eyes follow.
He walks right
The eyes follow.
Somebody is watching
Somebody is watching.
The man stops, listens
Walks on.
The dandelions remember.
CD's
The music is somewhere inside, I think. I hear that the music
is microscopic. To bad. I think I
would like to see the music. I wonder if the music is colorful too? Color Music.
Music with
colors. Maybe the music is not in color? Perhaps the music is black and white.
If that is so, then which is black, which white? Is the rhythm black, white?
What about the
melody, the harmonics, the textures, tones? Which black? Which white? I don't
think it will be
figured out. Perhaps it's neither. Maybe they are all mixed together in their
microscopic world.
A Renoir (Bal du Moulin de la Galette)
Strange isn't it. These French impressionists. I wonder if
these people--these objects knew they
were going to be painted. Did the artist have permission or did he just simply
take out a canvas
and paint? He could have asked the couples who are dancing to the waltz or could
have asked
the group who are in deep conversation at the table. It is a dim room except for
a chandelier here
and there.
I wonder: is this a ball, a party? has there been a victory over the British or
for that matter has
there been a victory in the Belgian Congo? Are these people really French or do
they just seem
French? Are the women comfortable in their new dresses? Do the men really look
at each other's
hats? I wonder if the wine on the table is any good to drink? It's French isn't
it? Is the wine from
Champagne or from the Bordeaux valley?
I feel somewhat intrusive. I wasn't invited. The people certainly seem happy.
Maybe they are
enjoying themselves. Then again, maybe they are not. I'm not really sure.
Monsieur and Madame will go in their carriage and the driver will start up the
horses. the horses
will clip-clop down the cobblestones. Monsieur and Madame will get out of the
carriage. They
will come in the house and the door will close.
How to
Watch a Movie
Before you put the video in you must turn the lights to off. Then you must sit
in the proper
position--that is sprawled out on the carpet. If you want to see the video
screen better, sit in a
couch-like seat and then get into the desired slouching position. After you have
got your
popcorn, coke, and other goodies, get into the same position again. Pick up the
remote control in
your hands and press firmly on the PLAY button. During the movie, there are
certain
requirements. If it is a drama then you must cry. If it is a comedy then you
must laugh. If you are
watching an action thriller then you must be as close as possible to the video
screen so that you
can get the FULL effect of what the character is going through as he or she is
being thrown out of
a building, car, airplane, train, etc, etc. You get the picture, don't you?
Lost in Cyberspace
Hunched over the box
staring into my eyes
I am riveted
click-click-click
t-t-t-t-t-t
type, type, type
Speech on virtual page
talking yet the lips
don't move
grasping every word
type, type, type, type
the words vanish.
Writer's Block
Sleepless nights
endless days
I dream
I think
my mind
working with
such fervor
my mind
creating characters
stories
poems that go
unread
unwritten
In seconds
they vanish
a blank page
before me
I must
capture them.
Verses Written after
Watching
"Dead Poet's Society
for the second time"
I saw a movie
inspiring me
how can I do
anything extrodinary
anything great
to escape
monotny.
If unresponsible
tradgey strikes
if controlled
wonderful events
take place
CARPE DIEM
Use wisely
freedom
isn't always
Caution!
Beware!
Freedom
inspiration
Seize!
Go!
Go!
Go!
Embrace
however slowly
a day at a
time.
Bay of Diamonds
Serene mists gather around me
Salve on my body, transparent
Thoughts pass in columns in front
of my eyes, obscure
in violet skies.
A man approaches with
A beaming smile
He stretches out his hands
to greet me, embrace me
I take a small step
But fall, knowing the reason
of his coming
He summons me to rise
Wipes the salty, stinging
tears that have fallen
down my red cheeks
And embraces me.
The sun decides to go to sleep
So he takes his purple, pink
Red blanket over him.
In his place, the moon wakes
Yawns and sets herself at her
post, keeping watch
While I find my blanket
Bed, knowing I shall
Never be lost, left behind.
Looking at the Trees That
Stand Over My House
Finally Autumn arrives
in this land of
perpetual heat
leaves--changing
their coats of
green to
crimson, yellow
orange, brown
gently falling
to the earth
below.
cool, downy
breezes
encompass me
my hair
whips around
my face
irritated
I brush
it away
gazing at tall
walnut
oak trees
swaying, bowing
in the breeze
delighted
I see a
squirrel scamp
up a tree
to find his home
smiling, I
enter my house
taking a cup of
tea I sit
thinking
while my cat
sleeps
on
my lap.
Upon Hearing More
Turlough O' Carolan
Listen
hear
sweet
intoxicating music
that delights
my soul
such sheer
beauty
Harp, flute
Violin
tunes that
touch my
heart with
joy
such emotion
in the music
misty-eyed
I listen
taking in
every note.
The Pearl
How can one describe
the peace that engulfs my soul?
Such joy
such pain.
Ah, I should keep my eyes
ever on the Light
the Word
He shall lead
I know He has
for months
Nay--years He has.
Lead me
I follow.
A Treasure
I have found
I love it
cherish it
but
'Tis not my own
not yet.
I embrace the Light
and the Treasure that
He has shown me
How can it be otherwise?
I am ever closer to Him
The Light, the Word.
Oh, my temper
My faults
like a dozen
mirrors, accusing me.
'Tis not so
I love
as I have never loved before
I'm certain
at peace, tranquility
'Tis why I must follow
Take the Treasure that
has been shown to me.
Please, lead O Light
Guide me, protect me
I follow You.
